Copier Data Security and the Risks to Your Company

Just one of the potential costs of not knowing about data security

Companies are becoming more sensitive and more aware of the problems data security with their copiers pose in Boston.  We have good news and we have bad news for you.  The good news is, the copiers we sell have data security and data encryption built into them.  The bad news is the copiers you own already in Boston may not.

So, what’s the deal?  Basically, since 2002 almost all copiers have come standard with hard drives; essentially this helped to increase the copy speed for longer jobs.  This was accomplished by scanning a copy of your document and placing it on the copier’s hard drive and then making copies from the rard drive rather than the glass.  From an efficiency standpoint, totally logical.  From a data security standpoint not so much.  Manufacturers such as Kyocera, Canon, Sharp, Oce, Imagistics, etc made kits that would protect your data, but it cost a bit extra.  Being sensitive to budgets rather than security, most customers choose to forego this option.

Can you risk losing images of documents you may have copied a year ago?  Do you protect your customer’s sensitive information?  Do you want your financials exposed (if you made copies of them)?  These are the real risk of not addressing data security.

Give us a call if you would like to see how we can help you with this crucial component of copier buying in Boston!
