It’s something that is easy to forget, but many copiers have internal hard drives. If you are in an information sensitive industry, such as law, or accounting the following points are worth considering.
- The majority of copiers built since 2002 have an internal hard drive. This means that there could be unsecured images of your copies stored in your copier.
- Some copiers do not come standard with a data security kit, and the ones that do are not always configured correctly when the machine was set up.
- At the end of your lease agreement do you plan on returning your copier? If so, you may be sending your unsecured copier back only to be resold. Is there anything in it that you don’t want the second owner having access to?
- This should be a concern if you are an attorney, a CPA, in the medical field, or in an industry that handles any type of sensitive or private data.
